Catholic Women’s League

The Catholic Women’s League (CWL) is a group of women who’s object is the following:

The objects of the League shall be to unite Catholic women of Canada:

1. to achieve individual and collective spiritual development
2. to promote the teachings of the Catholic church
3. to exemplify the Christian ideal in home and family life
4. to protect the sanctity of life
5. to enhance the role of women in church and society
6. to recognize the human dignity of all people everywhere
7. to uphold and defend Christian education and values in the modern world
8. to contribute to the understanding and growth of religious freedom, social justice, peace and harmony

“THE CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE OF CANADA has worked in the parishes and diocese of our country in support of the Church’s mission for more than a century! Members of the League are often among the most committed and active parishioners priests can rely on to support the pastoral care of parishioners and address social issues” said Bishop Stephen Jensen, Bishop of Prince George and National Spiritual Advisor of the League. He has asked Bishops to promote the League in the Diocese and encourage Pastors to better know and support the organization as a valued collaborator in the mission we all share. As the largest grassroots organization of women in Canada, we encourage women to become members of the League.”

At St. John’s the Catholic Women’s League serve their community by assisting special events, funerals, or organizing community fundraisers. They play an active role in the Church, as well as in the Community of Arthur. Established in 1953, the CWL of St. John’s have a long history of service within our Parish. The group gets together at our Parish Centre for meetings, and will hopefully be resuming these as they navigate the changing restrictions due to Covid-19.
